An Air Force hurricane hunter aircraft in the storm this morning was continuing to see falling pressures, with the 8 am CDT eye penetration recording a 949 mb pressure. The aircraft also observed evidence that an eyewall replacement cycle was beginning. In this situation, the inner eyewall would collapse and be replaced by a new eyewall with a larger diameter, which would likely slow down or end Harvey’s intensification phase.

Harvey first made landfall over San Jose Island and then near Rockport, in south-central Texas, late Aug. 25 as a Category 4 hurricane, threatening millions of residents with 130-mph winds, heavy rains, and a massive storm surge that swamped coastal areas. Most models have the bias toward the west coast, versus the east coast earlier, which is the track I have been forecasting since the start. The big difference is the massive size of IRMA, having jumped from a Tropical Storm, to a CAT 2, just off the Africa coast.
Hurricane JOSE: CAT 4, 150 mph, 940 mb: Unlike Hurricane IRMA, Hurricane JOSE became big over the last two days, jumping from CAT 1, Wednesday, to Cat 3 yesterday, to CAT 4 today. The BIG difference is that IRMA morphed into a CAT 2 off Africa, becomming bigger as it crossed. JOSE just morphed into a high wind Hurricane, but it is not nearly as MASSIVE of a storm. IRMA shattered the record for a CAT 5 Hurricane, with 185 mph winds for 37 hours, the past record was 18 hours for Allen in The Gulf of Mexico, and Super Typhoon, the record breaking Beast, in the Northwest Pacific in 2013, at 24 hours! As this article notes: Accumulated cyclone energy, or ACE, is a way of measuring a hurricane by adding up the wind energy used by a tropical system over its lifetime.Irma generated the most ACE (44.2 units) by a tropical cyclone on record in the tropical Atlantic and also the most in a 24-hour period on record, breaking the old record set by Allen (1980).
For those from Florida feeling fortunate that IRMA may NOT stop by, two points to consider: 1) Florida is 500 miles long and 160 miles wide at its most distant points. The World will experience a number of "TEMPERATURE THRESHOLDS," including: 1) (2011-2017) significant warming of the Arctic to start a 50 gigaton general release of methane hydrates, increasing the atmospheric burden of methane 10 fold (in Siberia, methane readings 1,000 times norm were measured this summer 2017), sufficient enough to raise the global carbon burden from just over 400, to 800 to 1,000 ppm. This "one driving force" alone, will insure "Near Term Human Extinction!"
2) (2016-2017) The "TEMPERATURE THRESHOLD" sufficient for the Slowing of The Atlantic Meridonal Overturning Circulation (AMOC), sufficient to cause the next "TEMPERATURE THRESHOLD," the warming of The Gulf and the Atlantic around The Equator and The Caribbean, sufficient to generate THE TWO LARGEST SUPER STORMS ON RECORD! This next "TEMPERATURE THRESHOLD" the world is experiencing NOW - "The Era of The SUPER STORMS!"
Just to make sure we don't get bored, Mother Nature will reward her Prodigal Sons and Daughters, especially in Houston, through Florida, and up The East Coast of the US. The next "TEMPERATURE THRESHOLD" will be when the Arctic becomes completely "ice free," called a "Blue Ocean Event!" I expect this by 2020, and then, the number of months the Arctic is completely "ice free," a "Blue Ocean," the hotter and hotter the Arctic Ocean will become over the East Siberian Arctic Shelf (ESAS). The amount of energy that it takes to "melt ice," water can rise in temperature to 80F!
The next "TEMPERATURE THRESHOLD," I expect, will be when the ESAS becomes warm enough to emit 100 plus gigaton releases over a few years. I trust that this will occur between 2025-2035. Likely before this time, 2020-2025, I expect that the "rate of melt" of Antarctica's Ice Sheets (Larsen C, etc.) will accelerate at an increasing rate (2nd derivative is positive and increasing). This beginning of "The ERA of Significant and Increasing Antarctica Ice Melt," I expect in the 2025-2030 period. This driving force will bring on the next "TEMPERATURE THRESHOLD," the beginning of "The ERA of Significant SEA LEVEL RISE!" I expect that this will be concurrent with the "The ERA of RISING SEA LEVELS!" Therefore, I expect "The ERA of Significant SEA LEVEL RISE," to start between 2025 to 2030, and continue until sea levels rise by the theoretical amount, roughly 250-300 feet.

9/8/17 IRMA, 150 MPH, CAT 4, 927 MB: HURRICANE IRMA's strength of has dropped slightly, although don't take this as meaningful. This was expected, going between Cuba and the Bahamas. As IRMA goes over the "Historically Hot" waters south of Florida, IRMA is likely to gain strength, and then IRMA is expected to "engulf" Florida, driving up the middle, with some models having the "eye of the storm," in the center, center east, or center west. However, the "whole state" is likely to be thrashed!

For those spared the Wrath of IRMA, don't feel too bad, HURRICANE JOSE is coming behind IRMA by a week! Not only on the same path, but also, with roughly the same wind speed and Category 3 rating, for where JOSE is at.
IRMA, your sister, has been CAT 5, with 185 mph winds for 37 hours, the past record was 18 hours for Allen in The Gulf of Mexico, and Super Typhoon, the record breaking Beast, in the Northwest Pacific in 2013, at 24 hours! As this article notes: Accumulated cyclone energy, or ACE, is a way of measuring a hurricane by adding up the wind energy used by a tropical system over its lifetime. Irma generated the most ACE (44.2 units) by a tropical cyclone on record in the tropical Atlantic and also the most in a 24-hour period on record, breaking the old record set by Allen (1980).
Jose, don't you worry, rising "Super Storm," you are heading on the same track as your sister IRMA, and you will be "fueled by" the same historically warm waters that your sister has been fueled by to "break" all of these historical records. 9/6/17 7:26 am pst, 185 mph, CAT 6 we argue - Cat 5 officially, 918 mb: Most of the hurricane models had IRMA NOT making landfall on Florida or on the US, until a few days ago; then many hurricane models moved to forecasting IRMA to go into The Gulf of Mexico; now most hurricane models agree with the path I initially forecast (see below) as the likely path of impact: Southern most Florida, going up the East Coast of Florida, then the East Coast of the US. Although I have forecast this as "the most likely path," since IRMA morphed into a CAT 2, from a Tropical Storm, much quicker than any other Atlantic hurricane I was aware of. I "urge all people" in Florida to get prepared! IRMA may just plow down the West Coast of Florida, but most likely path, is the East Coast of Florida, as I forecast initially.
I make SEVEN (7) primary new arguments: 1) Hurricane Harvey is the first "Super Storm," while Hurricane IRMA is the second "Super Storm," in the beginning of 2) "The ERA of THE SUPER STORMS!" "The ERA of THE SUPER STORMS," starts 3) "The ERA of THE RAVAGES OF ABRUPT CLIMATE CHANGE!" 4) HURRICANE IRMA is the "6th Category 6 Hurricane," which we propose a range of 180-199 mph. Instead of 31 Category 5 hurricanes, with a range of 157 mph plus, we propose that Cat 5 go from 157-179 mph, which would make 25 of these 31 storms, CAT 5. It would differentiate the five Super Storms that reached 185 mph, 180-199 the proposed CAT 6 range, and Wilma which hit 190, in the league of "Super Storms." As HARVEY and IRMA are the beginning of "The ERA of SUPER STORMS," I argue that "Super Storms" are 4) "THE NEW NORMAL!" 5) Category 6 and higher (CAT 6 180-199, CAT 7 200-219, CAT 8 220-230, etc) we argue are the new league of "Super Storms," trashing the world.
I would like to modify this Saffir-Simpson scale even further, as Hurricane Harvey, was surely the first "Super Storm," in "The Era of The Super Storms," and it was only a CAT 4. However, the ability for this CAT 4, even at a CAT 2, to "extract 33 trillion gallons of water from The Gulf and Dump it on Houston," surely merits "Super Storm" status. Estimates are that Hurricane Harvey may cost north of $190 billion. So maybe the new scale should be wind speed as the first criteria, with the ongoing additional categories, while total coast of the storm, is the second criteria. If the "total cost for recovery" places the storm in the top "five percent" of all massive storms, it is a "Super Storm."
In the case of IRMA it is likely to be primarily: the very high and sustained winds, hence wind speed is the primary driving force, but also, the storm surge, and lastly, the dumping of trillions of gallons of rain, that will cause most of the damage. IRMA's hurricane force winds reach 50 miles from the center, that is 100 miles wide of hurricane force winds going up the Coast of Florida, while tropical storm force winds reach 175 miles from "the eye of the storm!" OMG! So technically, although adding higher speed ranges for higher Categories (6, 7, etc) makes sense, the second variable I propose is "total cost to recovery." If the "total cost to recovery," places the storm in the top 5% of all hurricanes or typhoons, it is a "Super Storm."
Therefore the changes I propose to the Saffir-Simpson hurricane scale are first: the additional Categories as suggested (Cat 5, 157-179: Cat 6, 180-199; Cat 7, 200-219, etc.), with Category 6 and above "Super Storms," with the additional criteria that if the "total cost to recovery" places the storm within the top 5% of all hurricanes or typhoons, it is a "Super Storm." I am also pondering if it should only be the storms with the "Top Ten Total Cost To Recovery" that receive the ranking of "Super Storm," although I expect so many of these "Super Storms," with the start of "The ERA of The SUPER STORMS," that it seems unfair to leave out all of the other coming horrific storms from "Super Storm" status! It should be obvious that some type of "human cost index," would be most appropriate. I will have to work on that idea sometime in the future, as it would require much more thought and introspection. OMG - And the Lunatics in Charge of the Evil States of America, and the Evil States of Texas and Florida, deny that "climate change" even exists! What a country!
6) "The ERA of RAPID SEA LEVEL RISE," I argue, will start by 2025 to 2030 forward. I had been forecasting 2030-2040, until the massive rise in global average temps from 2015-2017, the slowing of the AMOC, the shift of the "Polar Vortex" south last winter (2016-2017), the falling off of the Larsen C Ice Shelf in Antarctica, the findings of ANDRILL in Antarctica that only 2-3c above pre-industrial average temps can not only melt West Antarctica, but also East Antarctica, the beginning of The Era of The SUPER STORMS, etc., etc..

IS HURRICANE IRMA "THE FIRST CATEGORY 6 HURRICANE?" Hurricane ratings are simply based on their wind speed, a point of contention historically. Hurricane CAT 1 = 74-95 MPH (21 mph range), CAT 2 = 96-110 MPH (14 mph range), CAT 3 = 111-129 (18 mph range), CAT 4 = 130-156 (26 mph range), AND CAT 5 = 157 PLUS. Hurricane IRMA at 180 mph is 23 mph above the base wind of a Category 5! I would argue it should merit the rating of CATEGORY 6, with CAT 5 being 157-179 (22 mph range), and CAT 6 being 180 plus. But just to get prepared for "The ERA of THE SUPER STORMS," why not make the ratings 20 mph ranges, so CAT 6 would be 180-199, CAT 7 200-219, CAT 8 220-229, etc. Now that is forward thinking! Here is a list of Category 5 Hurricanes, note IRMA is tied for second with other hurricanes, Allen in 1980, takes first place at 190 mph, however it was in the The Caribbean and The Gulf. IRMA is now the strongest hurricane in the Atlantic ocean. If you agree with my speed classification suggested above, based on the list of Category 5 hurricanes on Wiki, there were 25 Hurricane 5, with wind speed from 157-179, and 6 Category 6 Hurricanes with wind speeds 180-199, none above. Ironic, 6 Category 6 Hurricanes, when I propose a new Category 6. Note that the power of hurricanes rises as follows a Category 2, is 10 times more powerful than a Category 1, a Category 3 is 50 times more powerful than Cat 1, Cat 4 is 250 times more than Cat 1, and Cat 5 is 500 times more powerful than Cat 1. I wonder how much more powerful the proposed 6 Category 6 hurricanes have been versus Category 1?! I guess we will wait and see! What about future Category 7, or Category 8 storms, and 3-6 feet of sea level rise. Most models have the bias toward the west coast, versus the east coast earlier, which is the track I have been forecasting since the start. The big difference is the massive size of IRMA, having jumped from a Tropical Storm, to a CAT 2, just off the Africa coast.
Hurricane JOSE: CAT 4, 150 mph, 940 mb: Unlike Hurricane IRMA, Hurricane JOSE became big over the last two days, jumping from CAT 1, Wednesday, to Cat 3 yesterday, to CAT 4 today. The BIG difference is that IRMA morphed into a CAT 2 off Africa, becomming bigger as it crossed. JOSE just morphed into a high wind Hurricane, but it is not nearly as MASSIVE of a storm. This smaller "mass" makes it more likely that JOSE will move out to sea, and not make landfall in the US, and may not hit the Virgin Islands, either. Let's hope so. However, the BIG point, is that the water temperatures are "so hot" that they are generating all of these potentially massive "Super Storms," regularly around the world NOW! Why? IRMA shattered the record for a CAT 5 Hurricane, with 185 mph winds for 37 hours, the past record was 18 hours for Allen in The Gulf of Mexico, and Super Typhoon, the record breaking Beast, in the Northwest Pacific in 2013, at 24 hours! As this article notes: Accumulated cyclone energy, or ACE, is a way of measuring a hurricane by adding up the wind energy used by a tropical system over its lifetime.Irma generated the most ACE (44.2 units) by a tropical cyclone on record in the tropical Atlantic and also the most in a 24-hour period on record, breaking the old record set by Allen (1980).
For those from Florida feeling fortunate that IRMA may NOT stop by, two points to consider: 1) Florida is 500 miles long and 160 miles wide at its most distant points. IRMA is 300 miles wide, so don't count on her NOT "blowing you a kiss!" 2) The second point to consider is that her brother, HURRICANE JOSE, is only roughly a week away, and is at Category 3, with 120 mph winds, at a similar location as was IRMA, with a similar track. Just to make sure we don't get bored, Mother Nature will reward her Prodigal Sons and Daughters, especially in Houston, through Florida, and up The East Coast of the US. The next "TEMPERATURE THRESHOLD" will be when the Arctic becomes completely "ice free," called a "Blue Ocean Event!" I expect this by 2020, and then, the number of months the Arctic is completely "ice free," a "Blue Ocean," the hotter and hotter the Arctic Ocean will become over the East Siberian Arctic Shelf (ESAS). The amount of energy that it takes to "melt ice," water can rise in temperature to 80F!
The next "TEMPERATURE THRESHOLD," I expect, will be when the ESAS becomes warm enough to emit 100 plus gigaton releases over a few years. I trust that this will occur between 2025-2035. Likely before this time, 2020-2025, I expect that the "rate of melt" of Antarctica's Ice Sheets (Larsen C, etc.) will accelerate at an increasing rate (2nd derivative is positive and increasing). This beginning of "The ERA of Significant and Increasing Antarctica Ice Melt," I expect in the 2025-2030 period. This driving force will bring on the next "TEMPERATURE THRESHOLD," the beginning of "The ERA of Significant SEA LEVEL RISE!" I expect that this will be concurrent with the "The ERA of RISING SEA LEVELS!" Therefore, I expect "The ERA of Significant SEA LEVEL RISE," to start between 2025 to 2030, and continue until sea levels rise by the theoretical amount, roughly 250-300 feet.

9/8/17 IRMA, 150 MPH, CAT 4, 927 MB: HURRICANE IRMA's strength of has dropped slightly, although don't take this as meaningful. This was expected, going between Cuba and the Bahamas. As IRMA goes over the "Historically Hot" waters south of Florida, IRMA is likely to gain strength, and then IRMA is expected to "engulf" Florida, driving up the middle, with some models having the "eye of the storm," in the center, center east, or center west. However, the "whole state" is likely to be thrashed!

IRMA, your sister, has been CAT 5, with 185 mph winds for 37 hours, the past record was 18 hours for Allen in The Gulf of Mexico, and Super Typhoon, the record breaking Beast, in the Northwest Pacific in 2013, at 24 hours! As this article notes: Accumulated cyclone energy, or ACE, is a way of measuring a hurricane by adding up the wind energy used by a tropical system over its lifetime. Irma generated the most ACE (44.2 units) by a tropical cyclone on record in the tropical Atlantic and also the most in a 24-hour period on record, breaking the old record set by Allen (1980).
Jose, don't you worry, rising "Super Storm," you are heading on the same track as your sister IRMA, and you will be "fueled by" the same historically warm waters that your sister has been fueled by to "break" all of these historical records. 9/6/17 7:26 am pst, 185 mph, CAT 6 we argue - Cat 5 officially, 918 mb: Most of the hurricane models had IRMA NOT making landfall on Florida or on the US, until a few days ago; then many hurricane models moved to forecasting IRMA to go into The Gulf of Mexico; now most hurricane models agree with the path I initially forecast (see below) as the likely path of impact: Southern most Florida, going up the East Coast of Florida, then the East Coast of the US. Although I have forecast this as "the most likely path," since IRMA morphed into a CAT 2, from a Tropical Storm, much quicker than any other Atlantic hurricane I was aware of. I "urge all people" in Florida to get prepared! IRMA may just plow down the West Coast of Florida, but most likely path, is the East Coast of Florida, as I forecast initially.
I make SEVEN (7) primary new arguments: 1) Hurricane Harvey is the first "Super Storm," while Hurricane IRMA is the second "Super Storm," in the beginning of 2) "The ERA of THE SUPER STORMS!" "The ERA of THE SUPER STORMS," starts 3) "The ERA of THE RAVAGES OF ABRUPT CLIMATE CHANGE!" 4) HURRICANE IRMA is the "6th Category 6 Hurricane," which we propose a range of 180-199 mph. Instead of 31 Category 5 hurricanes, with a range of 157 mph plus, we propose that Cat 5 go from 157-179 mph, which would make 25 of these 31 storms, CAT 5. It would differentiate the five Super Storms that reached 185 mph, 180-199 the proposed CAT 6 range, and Wilma which hit 190, in the league of "Super Storms." As HARVEY and IRMA are the beginning of "The ERA of SUPER STORMS," I argue that "Super Storms" are 4) "THE NEW NORMAL!" 5) Category 6 and higher (CAT 6 180-199, CAT 7 200-219, CAT 8 220-230, etc) we argue are the new league of "Super Storms," trashing the world.
I would like to modify this Saffir-Simpson scale even further, as Hurricane Harvey, was surely the first "Super Storm," in "The Era of The Super Storms," and it was only a CAT 4. However, the ability for this CAT 4, even at a CAT 2, to "extract 33 trillion gallons of water from The Gulf and Dump it on Houston," surely merits "Super Storm" status. Estimates are that Hurricane Harvey may cost north of $190 billion. So maybe the new scale should be wind speed as the first criteria, with the ongoing additional categories, while total coast of the storm, is the second criteria. If the "total cost for recovery" places the storm in the top "five percent" of all massive storms, it is a "Super Storm."
In the case of IRMA it is likely to be primarily: the very high and sustained winds, hence wind speed is the primary driving force, but also, the storm surge, and lastly, the dumping of trillions of gallons of rain, that will cause most of the damage. IRMA's hurricane force winds reach 50 miles from the center, that is 100 miles wide of hurricane force winds going up the Coast of Florida, while tropical storm force winds reach 175 miles from "the eye of the storm!" OMG! So technically, although adding higher speed ranges for higher Categories (6, 7, etc) makes sense, the second variable I propose is "total cost to recovery." If the "total cost to recovery," places the storm in the top 5% of all hurricanes or typhoons, it is a "Super Storm."
Therefore the changes I propose to the Saffir-Simpson hurricane scale are first: the additional Categories as suggested (Cat 5, 157-179: Cat 6, 180-199; Cat 7, 200-219, etc.), with Category 6 and above "Super Storms," with the additional criteria that if the "total cost to recovery" places the storm within the top 5% of all hurricanes or typhoons, it is a "Super Storm." I am also pondering if it should only be the storms with the "Top Ten Total Cost To Recovery" that receive the ranking of "Super Storm," although I expect so many of these "Super Storms," with the start of "The ERA of The SUPER STORMS," that it seems unfair to leave out all of the other coming horrific storms from "Super Storm" status! It should be obvious that some type of "human cost index," would be most appropriate. I will have to work on that idea sometime in the future, as it would require much more thought and introspection. OMG - And the Lunatics in Charge of the Evil States of America, and the Evil States of Texas and Florida, deny that "climate change" even exists! What a country!
6) "The ERA of RAPID SEA LEVEL RISE," I argue, will start by 2025 to 2030 forward. I had been forecasting 2030-2040, until the massive rise in global average temps from 2015-2017, the slowing of the AMOC, the shift of the "Polar Vortex" south last winter (2016-2017), the falling off of the Larsen C Ice Shelf in Antarctica, the findings of ANDRILL in Antarctica that only 2-3c above pre-industrial average temps can not only melt West Antarctica, but also East Antarctica, the beginning of The Era of The SUPER STORMS, etc., etc..

IS HURRICANE IRMA "THE FIRST CATEGORY 6 HURRICANE?" Hurricane ratings are simply based on their wind speed, a point of contention historically. Hurricane CAT 1 = 74-95 MPH (21 mph range), CAT 2 = 96-110 MPH (14 mph range), CAT 3 = 111-129 (18 mph range), CAT 4 = 130-156 (26 mph range), AND CAT 5 = 157 PLUS. Hurricane IRMA at 180 mph is 23 mph above the base wind of a Category 5! I would argue it should merit the rating of CATEGORY 6, with CAT 5 being 157-179 (22 mph range), and CAT 6 being 180 plus. But just to get prepared for "The ERA of THE SUPER STORMS," why not make the ratings 20 mph ranges, so CAT 6 would be 180-199, CAT 7 200-219, CAT 8 220-229, etc. Now that is forward thinking! Here is a list of Category 5 Hurricanes, note IRMA is tied for second with other hurricanes, Allen in 1980, takes first place at 190 mph, however it was in the The Caribbean and The Gulf. IRMA is now the strongest hurricane in the Atlantic ocean. If you agree with my speed classification suggested above, based on the list of Category 5 hurricanes on Wiki, there were 25 Hurricane 5, with wind speed from 157-179, and 6 Category 6 Hurricanes with wind speeds 180-199, none above. Ironic, 6 Category 6 Hurricanes, when I propose a new Category 6. Note that the power of hurricanes rises as follows a Category 2, is 10 times more powerful than a Category 1, a Category 3 is 50 times more powerful than Cat 1, Cat 4 is 250 times more than Cat 1, and Cat 5 is 500 times more powerful than Cat 1. I wonder how much more powerful the proposed 6 Category 6 hurricanes have been versus Category 1?! I guess we will wait and see!
